Working Hours

How to use

1

Working hours, not calendar hours

The tool counts only hours within the workday window. A 09:00 start and 17:30 end with a 30-minute lunch gives you 8 working hours per day. Weekends are excluded by default. Useful for billing, project planning, leave calculations, and turnaround estimates.

UK working time rules

The UK Working Time Regulations cap the average working week at 48 hours over a 17-week reference period (workers can opt out individually). Daily rest is 11 consecutive hours; weekly rest is 24 hours (or 48 over 2 weeks). Anyone aged 18+ in employment can use this tool to check their hours against the regulations.

💡 Did you know?

UK Working Time Regulations (1998) cap the average working week at 48 hours over 17 weeks, with daily rest of 11 consecutive hours and weekly rest of 24 hours (or 48 over 2 weeks). Workers can opt out of the 48-hour limit individually but not the rest requirements. The 'gig economy' has tested these rules — court cases since 2016 have classified more workers as 'workers' (covered) rather than 'self-employed' (not covered).
