Frequently asked
?
Why do UK Years start 1 lower than US Grades?
UK Year 1 is roughly equivalent to US Grade 1 in age, but UK starts compulsory schooling at 4-5 (Reception, before Year 1). US Kindergarten serves the same role. The numbering looks different but the ages line up.
?
What's the equivalent of GCSEs?
There's no exact US equivalent. GCSEs are subject-by-subject final exams at age 16. The US 10th-grade PSAT is the closest analogue chronologically; the high school diploma (Grade 12 graduation) is the closest in completeness. SAT/ACT are taken in Grades 11-12, more like the A-level timing.
